Tooth Extractions- Hollywood, Florida
Tooth extractions are often an intimidating dental procedure. While it is always our goal to save your natural teeth, sometimes a tooth must be removed. Impacted, severely decayed, or overcrowded teeth are among the most common causes of tooth extractions.
When you need a tooth extraction in Hollywood, Florida, we’re here to help.
All tooth extractions are not created equal – some teeth are more difficult to extract than others. Our team here at Canela Dental is dedicated to keeping you comfortable throughout the entire procedure. We employ the most advanced dental practices available – including the most up-to-date anesthesia – to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Specialized instruments used during the extraction remove the tooth with precision and care. While many patients are concerned about pain during their tooth extraction, we seek to make the process as painless as possible.
Following the procedure, we provide personalized post-op instructions to minimize pain the night after the extraction and help with the healing process.
Tips for healing from the extraction:
- Take all medications as prescribed. In some cases, we prescribe an antibiotic or pain reliever following the extraction. It is critical to take all medications exactly as prescribed to aid healing and prevent infection.
- Ice affected area. To minimize pain and swelling, apply an ice pack to the area in 10-minute increments for several hours following the extraction.
- Take it easy. Immediately following the extraction, keep activities light for a day or two. Most patients find they’re able to resume their regular activities within 24 – 72 hours.
- Eat soft foods. Puddings, mashed potatoes, applesauce, and ice cream will be your best friends on the day of your extraction. As you heal, you can add your favorite chewing-intensive foods back into your diet.
Post-extraction follow-up:
After your extraction, we work with you to create a long-term plan for replacing your missing teeth, if needed.
Leaving a gap can be an option for some patients. However, we typically recommend patients replace the missing teeth.
Missing teeth impact not only your confidence in your smile but your ability to chew well and speak clearly as well. Long term, a missing tooth can allow the remaining teeth to shift, impacting the function of your entire mouth.
Our team is excited to offer several excellent options for replacing your missing tooth.
Implants:
Fused to your jaw, implants closely mimic your natural teeth – in both look and feel. Implants resemble natural teeth in both appearance and feel. We leverage the latest technology – including digital x-rays, 3D mapping, models, and photography – to create state-of-the-art custom implants. Most patients find implants are the best investment they can make in their smile following an extraction.
Dentures:
Dentures provide a cost-effective way to replace missing teeth. Modern dentures can very closely imitate the look of natural teeth. While they lack the permanence of implants, today’s dentures are firmly attached to your mouth and last longer than traditional dentures.
We offer both full and partial dentures to help restore your beautiful full-toothed smile. Dr. Calena-Pichardo will work with you to create custom-designed dentures or partial dentures to fit your unique smile and dental needs.
